St Helena, multibeam survey
The reason for my visit to the distant St Helena island was to preform a Multibeam bathymetric survey and shore sections of Ruperts Bay and the adjacent seafloor out to -35m CD. This was to built a 3-dimensional (3D) digital terrain model (DTM) of the bay to aid in the construction of a scale wave model and design of a proposed breakwater and quay inside of Ruperts Bay.
Below is a google earth image of the final thematic image generated from the survey.
Once we completed the survey we had some spare time and managed to survey the Papenoue wreck in the Jamestown bay. Although there is very little of the ship still in tact, the boilers are still visible in the image below as well as some other vague features that hint that it was once a ship.
There is a lot planned for St Helena over the next few years so keep tuned.
