Granger Bay, single-beam survey

My latest small project was a single-beam survey at the Granger Bay Water Club in Cape Town. The survey was conducted for preliminary planning for the dredging operations to take place there in the near future.

The survey was conducted using a single-beam echo-sounder and Real Time Kinematic (RTK) Global Positioning System (GPS) to eliminate the need for a tide gauge. A tide gauge would have been redundant; as the RTK system returns real time coordinates, in the horizontal and more importantly the vertical, on the boat to better than 2cm accuracy. From the results volumes of material were calculated against a given design and reported accordingly.
